March 3 After hearing that the mammoth Russian Antonov AH-124-100 (formerly the AN-124-100) was parked at the nearby Charlotte airport, Greg Whitcomb and I took a long lunch and went over to have a look. This is said to be the world's largest airplane (as of 1998)... Photo-Journal... |

July 4 As I rambled about I came to the Washelli Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Aurora Ave. in Seattle. A stunning sight. Thousands of white marble markers in a sea of green grass, against a blue sky. 2001, August 2 After my luncheon at Virginia City, heading back to Reno, I pulled over to admire these horses silhouetted against the brilliant blue Nevada sky. As I put my eye to the camera I heard the distinct "report" of a rattle snake... very close. I lowered the camera and spotted a big rattler coiled and bobbing about 10 feet away. I slowly brought the camera back to my eye and tried to center on the snake, but it was gone. At that moment I did not know where the rattler had slithered off to, so I turned and high-stepped back to the car! I regret not getting a shot of that guy... Photo-Journal... |

The digital camera couldn't quite pick it up, but snow-capped Mount Baker was visible in the distance, on the mainland side of the Sound. I stayed around for a half hour watching this man work, and I drove away inspired... Photo-Journal... |

13 Lubbock, Texas, Buddy Holly, and my Gibson Dove. In the movie Open Range, "Boss" Spearman (Robert Duvall) says to Charlie Postlewait (Kevin Costner) "I like a pistol with some heft." Me to. I also like acoustic guitars with heft, like the Gibson J-200 that Buddy played and the Gibson Dove that I'm now so proud of. My fondness for hefty acoustics, especially those with a little color, was formed by cowboy guitars, Hummingbirds, and the look and sound of Buddy Holly's J-200. I played "Well All Right" and "Words of Love" at this fine place... Photo-Journal... |

2012, September 28 Bryan Bowers was singing "Where The Soul Of Man Never Dies" as I walked in... with autoharp... says he's the first "living" inductee of the Autoharp Hall of Fame. I had a pleasant chat with Bryan after his set - I asked him where in Virginia he hailed from and he replied "Yorktown, where Lord Cornwallis surrounded to George Washington in October of 1871." My kind of man! I replied that I'm from 40 miles east of Kings Mountain and Cowpens where General Daniel Morgan of the Continental Army whooped Lord Cornwallis before he got to Yorktown, in January of 1781! I bought Bryan's Bristlecone Pine CD after our chat and I'm enjoying it even as I write these words...
