I drove to the Seattle waterfront and boarded a ferry to Bainbridge Island, then headed northward up the Washington peninsula toward the Juan De Fuca Strait and British Columbia, Canada. I made it as far as Port Angeles and at Port Angeles I spent New Year's Eve...

After leaving the ferry terminal (about 20 miles outside of Vancouver), I drove across a broad delta... flat, like Texas, or coastal Carolina. I reached central Vancouver under darkness and secured accommodations. As I made my way into the city I crossed several bridges and bodies of water, and observed many thousands of people filling the sidewalks. Big city, with a considerable Asian influence. Mountains in the background...
