Day 1 - December 31, 2000
Within site of Canada...
I drove to the Seattle waterfront and boarded a ferry to Bainbridge
Island, then headed northward up the Washington peninsula toward the
Juan De Fuca Strait and British Columbia,
Canada. I made it as far as Port Angeles and at Port Angeles I
spent New
Year's Eve...
I rang in the New Year at a local establishment, seated beside a fellow
who worked as an engineer on a giant oil tanker from Valdese, Alaska, moored
a few hundred yards away. Fireworks from the Seattle Space Needle were
on the TV...
Back in my quarters, appropriately enough, 2001: A Space Odyssey was
on the tele... Dave...

From Washington State to Canada...
Day 3 - January 2, 2001
Victoria to Vancouver...
After leaving the ferry terminal (about 20 miles outside of Vancouver), I drove
across a broad delta... flat, like Texas, or coastal Carolina. I
reached central Vancouver under darkness and secured accommodations. As I made my way into the city I crossed several bridges and
bodies of water, and observed many thousands of people filling the sidewalks. Big city, with a considerable Asian influence. Mountains in the
background...
