Day 1 - Seattle To Reno, Virginia City To Lake Tahoe

Friday, June 7, 2002

The dash from my lodge in Bellevue to the Seattle airport...

Over Seattle, Mount Shasta in California, the Nevada country, and Reno...

Reno airport... meeting Chieko upon her arrival from San Jose...

Virginia City, Nevada...

Chieko had a good laugh when I tried this jacket on! No, I didn't buy it... I don't wear "Rebel" on my sleeve...

The Virginia City Cemetery is on a piece of land that juts out to the east, away from town, into the desert like a point jutting out into an ocean. A hard, dry zephyr was blowing in gusts of 40 mph...

Through Carson City, over the Carson Range and Spooner Summit, and down to Lake Tahoe...

The Ponderosa Ranch at Incline Village, on Lake Tahoe...

And on to the Tahoe Biltmore, at Crystal Bay, Nevada. California is a few paces down the way. A San Francisco Chronicle reporter chats with a Little Joe fan...

It was my great honor to meet, in the Tahoe Biltmore lobby, Kim Komenich, Pulitzer Prize winning photographer for the San Francisco Chronicle (thanks to Chieko):

We had our dinner at Kings Beach, in California...

There aren't many places on Earth more beautiful than Lake Tahoe...
