Bellevue, WA... the second (and final) "blood moon" total eclipse of 2014 occurred at 3:27 AM, but was obscured by clouds from my vantage point. 16 hours later the moon rise was still spectacular...

After reaching the first overlook we discovered that the trail leading on to Twin Falls was blocked by a recent landslide, so this is as close as we were able to get. As we reached this perch the on-again-off-again drizzle we had encountered on the climb became a downpour, so we began a hasty retreat back down the valley...

Back on the South Fork of the Snoqualmie river, near the trailhead... we were soaked to the bone! Hong and Geneva were real troopers as we hiked back to the trailhead in a hard rain from where we were turned back at the first overlook. Geneva rode on my shoulders and sang the whole way!

Wet and cold, the robust explorers stopped for Phở at North Bend. Geneva was spinning tall tales about the rain and thunder on the volcano we had just climbed...
