Hiking The West Point, April 19, 2003

But first... Saturday, April 18 with Hiromi and Ishi... Coffee in Seattle's Greenwood neighborhood, admiring a Bigfoot RV at Lake City, and walking through Viewpoint Park in Bellevue...

On clear days, rare as they are, mighty Mount Rainier can be seen towering in the distance...

Easter Sunday, April 19

After meeting Hiromi at Green Lake we paused to take in a westward view of Ballard and the Ship Canal... Discovery Park and West Point are just beyond the Ship Canal...

Discovery Park and West Point were once part of Fort Lawton, a US Army base. The land was transferred to the City of Seattle in 1972 and became the area's largest park, named for Captain Vancouver's ship "Discovery." West Point Lighthouse was our destination. The park seems a long way from the city but it's not... Seattle is all around...

The view from the edge of this cliff is dramatic, especially to the west across Puget Sound to the snowcapped Olympic Mountains...

The waters of the Pacific...

The Seattle shipyards can be seen to the south...

The Lockspot, a scant two miles from Discovery Park... Fish & Chips...

The Ballard Locks are just across the way from the Lockspot...
