Day 6: Back Up To Seattle

Monday, July 29, 2002
Seaside and Cannon Beach on the Oregon coast... along the Oregon side side of the Columbia River and crossing back over to Washington at Rainier... up the I-5 back to Seattle... tea at Mamasan's...

We arose early to a fine view of the Astoria Bridge, the Columbia River, and the marina...

We took our breakfast at the Pig 'n Pancake in Astoria...

As we were leaving the Pig 'n Pancake a nice lady told us of a fine view of the bridge and river from the front of her house up the hill... so, we drove on up...

Seaside Oregon, 10 miles down the coast from Astoria, and "the End of the Lewis & Clark trail"...

Lunchtime at Seaside...

Cannon Beach, a few miles south of Seaside... This was the southern terminus of our Oregon explorations...

On the Pacific Coast Scenic Byway, otherwise known as Highway 101... northward, back toward the Columbia River...

Crossing over the Columbia River... back into Washington State at Longview...

North of the Columbia River we picked up I-5 North, stopping for lunch at a local Sharis. The menu featured a picture of a lady bearing a remarkable likeness to Mother...

Through Olympia...

Back in Bellevue we did a little shopping at the local Cameras West. This is my new pocket camera, replacing the ill-fated Canon S330...
Pentax Optio 330

After an early dinner in Redmond at Ruby's Diner we relaxed a bit at Kelsey Park (part of the Bellevue Lake-To-Lake Greenway)...

For our last evening together we enjoyed tea and snacks at Mamasan's in Bellevue. Mamasan was so happy to meet my Mother and Father, and Emi and Atsuko were perfect hosts, keeping everyone well entertained!

Atsuko had been looking forward to meeting my parents and singing John Denver's "Country Roads" for them...

I serenaded the room with "Are You Lonely Tonight," and Atsuko and I did "Edelweiss" together...
