2001, August 2 After my luncheon at Virginia City, heading back to Reno, I pulled over to admire these horses silhouetted against the brilliant blue Nevada sky. As I put my eye to the camera I heard the distinct "report" of a rattle snake... very close. I lowered the camera and spotted a big rattler coiled and bobbing about 10 feet away. I slowly brought the camera back to my eye and tried to center on the snake, but it was gone. At that moment I did not know where the rattler had slithered off to, so I turned and high-stepped back to the car! I regret not getting a shot of that guy... Photo-Journal... |

2001, August 11 Port Townsend, Washington... On the bluff above Port Townsend I came across this beautiful sight. The sun was beginning to sink low in the sky and the light was perfect against the red of the arbutus (Arbutus memzieii, aka "madrona") tree and the deep blue of Puget Sound. The digital camera couldn't quite pick it up, but snow-capped Mount Baker was visible in the distance, on the mainland side of the Sound. I stayed around for a half hour watching this man work, and I drove away inspired... Photo-Journal... |

March 20 Seattle, WA... Hong's wedding. The ceremony was beautiful, but I must admit to having been flooded with my own thoughts. Though in a church full of happy people, I felt like I was alone, and face-to-face with a very hard reality. After the ceremony, feeling nearly overwhelmed by it all, I stepped outside for some fesh air. Weddings, like Christmas Day, Thanksgiving Day, and some funerals, inspire reflection.
