At the Continental Divide I was about 40 miles below South Pass (where the Oregon and Mormon Trails crossed the crest of the Rocky Mountains). Instead of a narrow passageway with steep rugged sides across the great mountains, South Pass was a plateau of gradual ascent and decent; without the relatively easy grade of South Pass wagon travel over the continental divide would have been nearly impossible. The next time I pass through this part of Wyoming I'll trek to the north along the Sweetwater River and over South Pass proper...

I brought Bigfoot to a stop on the western side of the divide and walked around a bit. When I climbed back in I put the FM radio on scan. After a minute or so a station locked in long enough for Israel "Is" Kamakawiwo'ole's beautiful version of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" to play. I just sat there and enjoyed being alive...

Late afternoon in Wyoming...

I put in for the evening outside of Rock Springs, Wyoming on the airport plateau...
