Goodbye, Old Paint, I'm a leavin' Cheyenne
Goodbye, Old Paint, I'm a leavin' Cheyenne
I'm leavin' Cheyenne
I'm leavin' Cheyenne
Goodbye, Old Paint, I'm a leavin' Cheyenne
O when I die
Take my saddle from the wall
Put it on my pony
Lead him out of his stall
Tie my bones to his back
Turn our faces to the west
And we'll ride the prairies
That we love the best
Goodbye, Old Paint, I'm a leavin' Cheyenne
Approaching the Sherman Summit... Tree Rock, Wyoming...
At the Continental Divide I was about 40 miles below
South Pass
(where
the Oregon and Mormon Trails crossed the crest of the Rocky Mountains). Instead of a narrow passageway with steep rugged sides across the great
mountains, South Pass was a plateau of gradual ascent and decent; without
the relatively easy grade of South Pass wagon travel over the continental
divide would have been nearly impossible. The next time I pass through
this part of Wyoming I'll trek to the north along the Sweetwater River and
over South Pass proper...
I brought Bigfoot to a stop on the western side of the divide and walked
around a bit. When I climbed back in I put the FM radio on scan. After a minute or so a station locked in long enough for Israel
"Is" Kamakawiwo'ole's beautiful version of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" to play. I just sat there and enjoyed
being alive...
Late afternoon in Wyoming...
I put in for the evening outside of Rock Springs, Wyoming on the
airport plateau...
