Day 7 - Monday, April 4, 2005 - Virginia City and Lake Tahoe

My Reno morning alarm was the sweet sound of a pavement saw... the morning quickly improved with a triple tall Americano from the Starbucks next door...

Up the mountains from Reno on SR 341 toward Virginia City...

Looking back toward Reno...

At this spot I stopped for my late morning trail snack... tea and a sandwich... finishing off my last jar of Duke's Mayonnaise...

Approaching Virginia City...

Something draws me to Virginia City. Countless times, before I had Bigfoot, I imagined being right here and staying a good long while...

Virginia City...

I had my luncheon, a buffalo burger, at the Palace Saloon. I picked up a Frankie Laine collection in a neighboring shop...

I quickly lost my $20.00 in the Palace slots and moved on...

A parting shot of Virginia City, then on to Carson City...

Westward from Carson City over the Carson Range to Lake Tahoe...

Some software billionaire bought the old and beloved Ponderosa Ranch, closing the gate...

Incline Village...

The Biltmore at Crystal Bay, site of the 2002 Bonanza Convention...

The Truckee River...

Back to the Nevada side...

A glance at the meadow (between Marla Bay and Nevada Beach) where a classic Bonanza intro scene was filmed... the scene in which the Cartwrights ride up toward the camera with Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada in the background...

Stateline...

My evening camp at South Lake Tahoe, next to Sato's...
