Logic
In progress... I've often thought that the three most
important things that I learned a little about during my "formal"
education were typing, statistics, and logic. I claim no mastery in
these areas, but I was exposed to them; and a lifetime of benefit
was gained. Logic is a beautiful thing... There is a political element to my interest
in logic, for I have noticed that logic plays an amazingly small
role with those on the political left. The political left teems with
those who view issues first and foremost as they "want" them to be,
not first and foremost according to objective facts. In contrast, the
political right teems with those who view issues first and foremost
according to objective facts, not first and foremost according to personal
"wants" and "feelings." This is a rather bold statement, but I see evidence of its
correctness nearly everyday. I choose to side with facts over
"feelings" and
let the pieces fall where they may. The
truth is what it is; truth is not what we "want" it to be.
