Picking With Rick, June 19, 2003

My old pal Rick was in Bremerton for the week, on business. Rick and I were guitar buddies back at Catawba College in North Carolina, way back when, and oh the good times we had! Rick was then of New Jersey, now of West Virginia. On this evening he took the ferry over from Bremerton and I picked him up at Pier 52 in Seattle...

My drive into Seattle...

We dined at Mamasan, where Hiromi was a most delightful host...

After dinner we convened back at my lodge where we picked some of the old songs. Rick delighted me with John Fahey's "In Christ There Is No East Or West" and "Crow River Waltz" by Leo Kottke. I attempted to reciprocate with Dylan's "Tomorrow Is Such A Long Time" and "Song For Woody,"  and with "Blue Eyes Cryin' In The Rain." We traded a few John Prine numbers and listened to "Souvenirs," for old time sake. And we gave Tom Billotto in North Carolina a courtesy call...

The guitar above, my Takemine F-360, is the same axe that I had at Catawba College all those years ago and Rick was quite keen to pick on it again. An exceptionally fine evening with a dear old buddy...
