The Seattle waterfront... the ferry to Bainbridge Island... over
the Hood Canal Bridge and on to Port Angeles... the ferry across the
Strait Of Juan De Fuca to Victoria, BC...
This day started with breakfast at the Silver Cloud in Redmond (just
across the way from my lodge in Bellevue). Mother & Father then checked out
of the Silver Cloud and with ample mugs of coffee we hit the road...
Port Angeles.
We missed making the mid-day ferry to Victoria by about half an hour which
presented us with four hours to spend in Port Angeles... which turned out to
be quite nice...
It was at this point in our
travels, about 30 minutes out of Port Angeles on the ferry to Victoria, that
I lost my grip on my new Canon S330 digital camera, losing it to
the cold, deep waters of the
Strait Of Juan De Fuca. Along with the camera the sea also claimed all
of my trip pictures up to that point. I still shake my head when I recall
the image of the camera falling from the side of the big boat into the
ocean. As we sat there on the ferry pondering what I had just done, the
words of the old John Prine song "That's The Way That The World Goes 'Round"
came to mind, and I sang them aloud:
I was sittin'
in the bathtub, countin' my toes
When the radiator broke, the water all froze
I got stuck in the ice, without my clothes
Naked as the eyes of a clown
I was crying ice cubes, hoping I'd croak
When the the sun came through the window
The ice all broke
I stood up and laughed, I thought it was a joke
That's the way that the world goes 'round
That's the way that the world goes 'round
You're up one day and the next your down
It's half an inch of water and you think you're gonna drown
That's the way that the world goes 'round...
We laughed at that song and
after a few minutes what else could we do but shake our heads, make a few
jokes, and go on!
Father's shot of a ferry bird as we neared the coast of Canada...
Beautiful Victoria, BC...
Arriving late in the day and checking out early the next morning, we had
way too little time in beautiful Victoria...
