Day 22 - Tuesday, April 19, 2005 - Across Arkansas To Memphis

I put in the evening prior at Ft. Smith and this day began at that place...

Proceeding eastward across Arkansas...

Entering Little Rock, Arkansas...

Now... Little Rock is a fairly handsome little city on the Arkansas River...

At about this point I became aware of the distinct odor of bull, which I thought a little odd being that I had not noticed any concentration of cattle since way back at the stockyards of Oklahoma City...

A few moments later I realized what I was smelling... I had wandered onto President Clinton Ave! What a load of bull!

I drove by the Clinton Presidential Center, with zero desire to stop. I found the Clinton building to be as uninspiring as the man himself. On Day 14 of this Big Drive I visited the Ronald Reagan Library. The contrast between the Reagan site and the Clinton site, and between Reagan the man and Clinton the man, is striking. Reagan had profound world vision and was a truly great man. Clinton was impeached.

Bill Clinton - Liar!

I left this neighborhood and headed toward the first good truck wash that I could find!

Proceeding on, toward Memphis...

Memphis in sight... crossing the Mississippi River... entering Tennessee...

I headed straight through Memphis to Elvis Pressley Blvd. and Graceland to see what I could before nightfall. I spent a very pleasant early evening parked right in front of Graceland...

Then I drove over to Sam Phillips Ave. and parked in front of the famed Sun Studio...

The legendary Beale St. was next. I put in for the evening in a lot just behind B.B. King's and proceeded to have myself a fine time...

Beale St... certainly one of the gateways to the South...

I had pleasant conversation with Joe Finley, doorman at the Blues City Cafe. Old Joe says he's been on Beale St. forever... he does know the neighborhood history...
